Kelly tightened the "lunging reins" and sent Prince out on a circle. He had his head down and was snorting with relaxation. His ears were turned towards Kelly and his tail hung loosely. This is exactly what Kelly wanted him to do-relax. The indoor arena was perfect because there was no commotion. The stallion did as he was told. Kelly clicked flicked the whip gently and Prince moved into a flowing trot around her with his head down low. A few rounds later she said "canter" and clicked while gently flicking the whip behind him. He moved up into a smooth, rocking horse canter around her. T
"Whoaaa" said kelly in a calm, deep voice. The stallion twitched his inside ear and slowed to a stop with his head still down in the lunging reins. Kelly did the exact same in the other direction. At the end of the thirty-five minute session he was barely sweaty or breathing hard. Kelly was okay with him not having a hard workout because it was his first day, but the next day he would have a good, hour-long ride. Having a stallion like Prince with high energy would not be good. She loosened the reins and walked him back into the barn.
